One of my favorite stories as a kid was footprints in the sand. It was a song on the radio and I remember it vividly. It has helped mold and shape the God that is in my heart. What he truly is to me. What he can be for so many others.

Here is the poem written by Mary Stevenson in 1936 when she was 14 years old.

Footprints in the Sand   One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord, "You promised me Lord,  that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?" The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints, is when I carried you."                                                   ~ Mary Stevenson

My why is to shine the light of God; to help everyone I meet forget fear for just long enough to catch a glimmer of hope and believe they can accomplish the unthinkable, to shake them to the very core of their imagination and help them bring out the happiness that only they can receive through the power of God.

I know that he is always walking with me so it is up to me to walk with him. In my neighborhood I walk around the town and down to the local park. I wave at passing motorists all the time. Some may wonder why I wave, it is because in my imagination, I can see Jesus waving at everyone he passed on his walks. And I wish to walk like he did. To wave, smile, and wish everyone a blessed day.

To walk in the path of Jesus, we must emulate his life. No, we will never be Jesus or remotely close. We are too full of sin. I can try to follow his example to have faith, to hope, and to love. Love those who are around me and help them know God. So in my walking it is my time to walk with others, to share with them the life of Jesus and share my faith.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.
